Newspaper advertisement production

is our print advert. We took a few pictures and then created our advert on Adobe Photoshop.

Drafting newspaper ad

This is the first draft of our newspaper ad.

Codes and conventions of newspaper advertisements

In today's lesson we analysed Channel 4 adverts and came up with the codes and conventions of print ads.

Recording and editing radio trailer

In todays lesson we recored our radio trailer with Mr Riley who was our voice over. We had to record our voice over twice as the we had made changes after our first recording. After we had all the recordings done we edited the voiceovers and put the bits that we want in the right places and took the parts of the documentary that we were using for the radio trailer and added them in.

In this screenshot, we were listening to one of the voiceovers trying to pick out the bits that we wanted and then pulled it into the correct place. We had to get the same person who had done the voiceover for our documentary to do our radio trailer.

We had to create a title for the radio trailer so that people knew what they were watching. We created it by pressing crt+t and then dragging it down over the top of the voice recordings. After this, we had to find a song to add that related to the documentary and sounded good. Once we found one, we edited it so the song was as long as the radio trailer, but put a fade in at the end so that it sounded better. We also changed the volume level of the song so that the voice over could be heard and the music was just in the background.

We looked at our interviews and picked out the bits that we wanted to be heard in our radio trailer. When we had the bits we wanted, we put the brackets around it and then dropped it into the sequence below where we wanted it.

Scripting radio trailer

In todays lesson, we created our scripts for our radio trailers and we made sure to add the codes and conventions.

Radio Trailer Script

Music bed: Bastille - Of The Night
(.) - short pause
(1.0) - longer pause

Voice over:
V/O - "video game development is now a multibillion dollar industry. Having the most successful games on the market secures a company's position within the industry"

Clip: Gareth - "GTA because it's sold bucket loads"

V/O: " Do video games give out the wrong message?"

Clip: Gareth - "Sex in games, violence or bad language"

V/O: "Are video games becoming more important?"

Clip: Adam - "It's a passion we both share, it's a part of life"

V/O: "Push The Button (.) 'How games conquered the world' (.) Thursday, 9:30, Channel 4"

Codes and Conventions of Radio Trailers

In todays lesson we listened to a radio trailer and then we listed the codes and conventions of them.

Script of the voiceover

The person we chose to do our voice over was a male who had a clear and precise voice. We chose this specific person as we needed a male as it fitted the topic of our documentary more and he had the right voice to be a voice over on our documentary.

Voiceover

Introduction
Over the years, video games have changed a lot from Tic-Tac-Toe in the 1950's to Super Mario in the 1980's and Call of Duty in the last few years. The advances in graphics and storylines have seen the game industry become a worldwide phenomenon.

Age Ratings
Since age ratings were first introduced in the 1950's, the level of strictness has increased due to the dramatically changing content in the video games. As the industry is becoming stricter it means that age ratings and parental supervision are being introduced to stop children under the age of 18 from purchasing violent video games.

Development of gaming consoles
The development in gaming consoles has changed in terms of you now being able to converse online with other gamers through the consoles instead of having to be in the same room. However, others feel differently about the consoles themselves changing.

Addiction
Over the last few years, more people have become addicted to video games without realising it, as it is seen my many as a social activity.

Future of video games
With the introduction of the 4th generation consoles more and more games are having to be produced to keep up with the demands.

Edit Decision List

This is the Edit Decision List that my group made. It tells us the number of ech video so that we know where to find certain things and we also wrote down the times that we need from each video. The Edit Decision List will help us to carry on our editing, especially if someone in the group is off.

Logging Sheet

These are pictures of the logging sheet that we did. It tells us the names of the files, what each shot is of, and whether the shot it good or not. The logging sheet helped us when we were editing because we knew the numbers of the files that we needed.

Filming

These are the pictures of my group filming and editing. A few issues occured during the filming like not having the correct props to film for cutaways.

Planning

In todays lesson,we created a tite storyboard that will help us when we are creating our title sequence. We drew the frames for the interviews that we were going to do and included the positioning, the eye-line and the mise-en-scene in them so we knew what to do when we got to the interviews and we also created a list of questions for each of the interviews that we had.

Research for documentary

We conducted both primary and secondary research for the documentary that covered what interviews that we can get, what ones we do have and what archive material that we can include in our documentary.

Research for the documentary
Video games
Primary Research:
We looked into getting interviews with a variety of people such as;
·         Game
·         HMV
·         A and J’s Retro Gaming Cafe
·         Psychologist
·         Doctor
·         Parents
·         Quiggins Level Up Retro gaming store
·         Grainger Game
·         Gamestation
·         Scythe and Teacup gamer cafe
·         Power Play

Interviews
Interview with Quiggins Level Up Retro Gaming store
Interview with A and J’s gaming Cafe
Interview with Scythe and Teacup gamer Cafe
Interview with Parent
Interview with video game players
Locations to film when looking for our locations we had to look into what was relevant to the subject and making sure it fitted with the documentary, so we looked at filming in Liscard, Birkenhead and Liverpool outside Video game shops such as outside HMV, Game, A and J’s gaming cafe as these are all relevant to the documentary as the mise-en-scene needs to link in with the documentary and make sure that it is relevant so doing it outside games shops is perfect.
Secondary Research
For our secondary research we looked at a variety of things for our archive material as things such as footage if video games, articles of the history of video games, facts and figures of video games.
